Yishen Sun

Researcher, NIST

Yishen Sun received her PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Northwestern University. Prior to joining National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) , Dr. Sun was a member of corporate research and standards teams for more than 10 years, working for well-known technology companies including Motorola. She has been granted 20+ patents in the area of wireless communications while working for the private sectors.

Currently, Dr. Sun is a researcher in the Wireless Network Division (WND) in the Communications Technology Laboratory (CTL) at NIST. She attends 3GPP meetings regularly and contributes actively to the global standardization efforts of 3GPP. Dr. Sun’s research efforts include the device to device communications over 5G new radio (NR) sidelink, especially the applications in mission critical communications and/or vehicle to everything (V2X), and she represents NIST on multi-hop relay topics in 3GPP discussions. In addition, Dr. Sun she is interested in future technology advancements which may enable and/or improve the ubiquitous coverages for public service driven scenarios.
