This whitepaper addresses the need for the further development of semiconductor technologies that are important for the successful development of 6G transceivers. As these transceivers are complex systems and as 6G covers multiple frequency bands this is not a one fits all story. On, the contrary: depending on the module or the operating frequency one technology over the others will be best suited for the job.
This whitepaper covers the main transceiver’s building blocks and analyzes the need for further technology development for each. A particular attention is paid to the RF front-end and especially the transmitter. Here, it is shown that depending on the considered frequency band one or the other technology is best suited to provide the needed performance.
In the whitepaper, it is shown which technologies are most suited and where gaps still exist. This leads to the final chapters in which several key recommendations are proposed before drawing conclusions.
