Akihiro Nakao

Akihiro Nakao received his B.S. (1991) in Physics and M.E. (1994) in Information Engineering from the University of Tokyo. After working at IBM in the United States and IBM Tokyo Research Laboratory, he received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Princeton University. In 2005, he was appointed Associate Professor, and in February 2014, Professor of Applied Computer Science at the Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies, Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies, the University of Tokyo. Since 2020, he has served as Special Adviser to the President of the University of Tokyo. In April 2021, he moved to the School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo, where he has since been serving as Director of the Collaborative Research Institute for Next Generation Cyber Infrastructure (NGCI). In 2024, he was appointed Co-Chair of the XG Mobile Promotion Forum (XGMF). In 2026, he was elected Vice Dean of the School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo. His research interests include information science and communication networks.
